Code of Ethics

Professional Dog Walkers will consider the following:

  • Endeavour to ensure the safety and well being of people and animals met whilst on walks, show courtesy to members of the public at all times
  • Endeavour to avoid bottle neck areas and give right of way to members of the public if avoidance is not possible
  • Provide adequate ventilation when travelling and fresh water
  • Endeavour to ensure dogs walked together in groups are well socialised
  • Show courtesy to fellow pet care professionals and shall not seek to discredit the reputation of another pet care, professional, refrain from malicious and/or slanderous comments
  • Put the welfare of dogs before any commercial interests
  • Respect customer’s personal information
  • Endeavour to ensure the dogs they walk are not aggressive towards people or other dogs
  • Endeavour to ensure collars are correctly fitted and lead suitable for use
  • Check dogs have enough water when dropping off and refill as required
  • Towel wet dogs down where necessary
  • Not to leave any dog unattended in a hot vehicle other than when collecting or dropping off and endeavour to keep this time to an absolute minimum
  • Where possible park the vehicle in a safe courteous manner
  • In the case of an ill dog, attempt to contact the owner for instructions, or, if necessary immediately take the dog to a vet for treatment if such authority has been given
  • Make every effort to ensure all dogs in their care are under adequate control
  • Not to walk dogs off-lead on a public highway or amongst live-stock
  • Endeavour to participate in Association Fund Raising events
